A tale of paper, is a platform action Adventure that puts the player in the shoes of Lime. Lime is a paper figure who has to venture around in eight chapters to reach its goal. Through his adventure Lime
is capable of learning new abilities to keep the game simple and fresh. The game cleverly transforms Lime into different shape Origami to be able
to solve puzzles and move around. What a better way to manipulate a hero made of paper other than swapping Origami shape. The Game allows the player to control two different origami. The first Origami hero is capable
of transforming into three different shapes, an Origami in the shape of a frog, a ball and a plane. The second origami hero who appears in the final two chapters is capable of transforming into a bird shape origami
and a rocket.
The gameplay is simple.
The player moves around in a linear world in order to reach the ending of a given chapter. Line is weak to water, so standing in water or even trying to swim in a pond will cause his death. The other ways of
Lime to die, is to either jump off a cliff, being attacked by a hoover, as it will tear him to pieces and hit by security laser. The player moves around with L3 and Jumps with X. L1 is used to sprint and R1 is used to interact
with the world, most specifically the vents. The origami transformations are mapped to the other buttons. Square turns Lime into a frog that allows the player to have an enormous jump. Triangle turns him into a ball, this
transformation is mainly used in order to travel inbetween tubes. Circle is used for the plane form that allows Lime to hover for a while whilst in air. The second paper hero plays esxactly the same however his origami transformation
are different. Square is replaced with a bird, and very similar to the frog it gives the player an additional height on his jump. Circle is used to turn into a rocket whose function can be seen as a dash.
The abilities can work together, and it's something that the games expects from the player. For example, jumping either as a frog or bird and whilst in air hover as a plane or dash as a rocket.
The game has only one type of collectable and can be found in every chapter. These are papers scattered around the world. When all eight are gathered the players can visit the Extras that become available in the home screen once the game is finished. Every set of 2, showcases one of the four drawings that indicate the actual story of the game. Similar to other games such as unravel and Little Nightmares the Games collectables are easy to spot and it's up to the player to find his way around in order to collect it.
Over all this game is nice. The rooms created are very beutiful with a very complex look and design that make sense once the game is finished and the player ventures in Extras. Lemi is a very interesting character with unique transformations discovered throughout the eight chapters. The music escortiing the game is very chill and beutiful. The buttons respond in time when the button is smashed and the puzzles are easy and not very complicated. The story of the game is really weird, unique and honestly suprisingly unexpected. The games enemy variety is not enough but the point of the game was not the enemies. The lenght of the game is quite short, it can be done within two to three hours including the platinum trophy of the game. The game has a few bugs that can occur whenever the player is killed by a hoover. While the animation of death occurs, the player can still mash the transformation buttons, and this may cause Limes body to glitch out forcing the player to shut down the game and restart it. Ever since it's release the game has often been on sale online as it does not have a physical release as of yet.
