The game does not have a story mode so this part can be skipped.
The game can be played in Solo Or as a team(when playing custom games) where the player can control one hero. Once the hero is selected the player can select the Vechicle. First major difference here is that there is no vechicle customization or Character importance. All the precreated vehicles have their own status in terms of Speed, Acceleration, turn and handling.
The character on the other hand no longer add anything to the game in terms fo their weight etc. The player is given the option to enable or dissable the smart steering feature. The vechicles can move forward by holding down the button focussed on Accelerating. Not holding it will result in the car standing still. During the starting countdown of the race, if the player perfect
times tapping and holding the acceleration button, they will gain a Starting Speed Boost. The fastest boost will be given if the button, was held around the counter of 2. In order to Drift the player will have to press the appropriate button in this case the R button. Pressing and holding it down with the prefered direction cause the car to drift. While drifting, the car's wheels will
begin to spark into three colors, that indicate the speed boost the player will receive from their drift. Yellow, blue and purple in that order, indicate the amount of boost the driver will gain weaker to stronger. Driving in a straight line or behind a racer might build momentum to the player that will help him further accelerate. Smart steeringallows the AI to help the player drive
on the road but it can also sabotage. For example, yes it will prevent you from driving off the main road by slowing you down or helping you turn faster but it will also prevent you from trying to deliberately drive off road in order to get a shortcut.
The goal of the game is to claim the number one spot from all 25 players when racing through the maps. All the maps consist of boost pads and coins. Boosts pads are self explanatory as they give the player a boost when driving above them. Coins act very similar to the wumpa fruits in Crash Nitro racing and Rings in Sonic, where the more the player collects
the faster the vechicle will move however, the moment a player is hit by an enemy or drop of the map they will lose a couple of them. The maps also offer some high jumping areas and mini ramps(Rocks, wooden planks etc), where the player can gain boost by doing air tricks. Tricks can be done with the drift button and a direction. New to Mario Kart World is grind rails. The player can drive onto them and grind them. Whilst on them you can use air tricks
to gain small boosts. In certain maps you can jump from on rail to the other. Vertical driving is also a new addition where the player can drive vertically on wall and jump off it. Driving off the main road into a grass field will slower the car down, but using
a power up such as mushrooms or star can help them get use the fields as a shortcut. Furthermore certain maps have a few locations where the player will spin and gain speed. The last thing that can be found in the maps are power ups and food bags.
Power ups are items in the game that re used to sabotage other or give the player a helping hand. The players can collect them by driving towards a rainbow box with a question mark(?). Once the item box is gathered, the power up will be displayed on top left of the screen. The player can use the item by
pressing the L button. In order to shoot an item towards a preferred direction simply combine the L button with a direction of back or front. Again a new addition is the ability to throw an item on the sides as well. The option to look behind, whether is to aim or simply to see if anyone aproaches the player
can be achieved with either Y or X. Furthermore, there are Double boxes in the maps that will grant the player two powerups instead of one. Food items re gathered from around the map near food stalls. The player drives through an orange bag and receives a food item. Based on their position they receive a
food of different size and kind. The kind doesnt matter BUT the size does as the bigger the portion the longer the boost will be. Certain maps have their own hazards. For example, bonbs thrown by enemies, vechicles carrying bombs or even vechicles that throw objects such as mushrooms, bombs and foodbags. Items found in
the ground (mainly due to the lightning ability) can still be used if the driver drives onto them. There is a total of 28 power ups available. Most of them are the classics where others are original.
These Power ups Are:
The game has a huge roaster of heroes found in the Super Mario universe. There are no Guest Characters such as Link, Inkling, Miis etc. The player can unlock heroes by playing grand prix races. Another way to do so, is during a race, if a player uses Kamek and makes the player change to a character they dont own, they get to unlock that character. Last but not least, using a character and eating a bag of food, will allow the player to change outfit thus unlocking that hero. For example, if you use Walluigi and eat food, theres a chance your outfit will swap to Vampire Waluigi/Pro racer Waluigi or Mariachi etc. Heroes with alternative costumes count as different heroes.
The game offers multiple gamemodes. Some are more popular than others, however there always an appreciation for the alternative gamemodes. Whether those are for Single player, local or online Multiplayer.
Grand Prix
Grand Prix is a gamemode that exist in any mascot racing game and has been a part of the Mario Kart series from the beginning. Pretty much the player has to select a predetermined Cup which consist of 4 different tracks. Once the cup is selected a difficulty option will
become available between 50cc, 100cc and 150cc, easier to harder. The hardest difficulty of 200cc is no longer available however the director never ruled out the possibility of adding it in the future. In Grand Prix the player race in the 4 courts available in the cup. Each time a
race ends the player gets points based on their placement. At the end of the 4rth race the final ammount of points will be given to each racer giving them their final placement on the leaderboard.
Knockout Tour
Knockout Tour is the newest addition to Mario kart and based from the fuss around it ever since the game's release, Nintendo found a new gold mine. In Knockout Tour 25 racers will race across multiple maps as well as the path leading to them. Each map/road has a checkpoint at the end usually
indicating the end of the certain map/path. At the bottom right, theres a statement indicating a certain position, for example be "Be 16th or better". The players found from 16th all the way to 1st will qualify and continue racing whilst 17th and below will get disqualified. The aim is to survive
the designated number and make it to the top 4 where you ll race for the number 1 spot. It is not officially confirmed, but it is believed that a high placement on each checkpoint grants more total rank points than barely making it. As mentioned theres total of five checkpoints and it consist of multiple tracks
including the path leading to them. Players can always try and find shorcuts or alternative paths as long as they lead to the checkpoint gate.
Time Trial
Again standard to any racing game, a Time trial consist of the player selecting a course and racing. Each time the player crosses the finish line their time is saved. The player can challenge themselves as many times ass they want to make a better time, meanning they found shorter/faster paths.
The player can even challenge ghost data of other racers who might ve found a better/faster path. Watching them will help you learn their tricks and paths.
Vs Race
In Vs race, the player can make/host their own races with their own unique rules. This means they can choose if the game is played on teams or solo, they can select the difficulty of the lobby(NPCs), the level of the race(eg.150cc), which course they ll play and adjust the number of racing turns and finally adjust the items that will be
available. Its a fun silly gamemode.
Coin Runners
In Coin Runner a timer is set and the teams compete on who will have the most ammount of coins at the end of the game. Collecting coins stacks on top of the player. Hitting someone or being hit will cause some of them to drop allowing people to steal them.
Balloon Battle
In Balloon Battle, all drivers are given a number of balloons to their possession. When they re being hit they lose 1. Lossing all the ballons will eliminate the driver and the driver who s the last man standing wins. You can always boost into the enemy team and steal a balloon off of them.
Bob-omb Blast
In Bob-omb blast the gammode is similar to balloon battle but the only obtainable items are Bombs. You need to throw the bombs in hope of popping the enemy teams balloons.
Open World
Mario Kart World has the word world for a reason. This is because the game features a massive open world for the player to drive around freely. The player can free roam and discover multiple location scattered around the world that Nintendo crafted for us. There are various easter eggs that some will appreciate such as a poster of all 8 bit models
from the earlier games. If you played any any recent Mario kart game, you would know that the karts transform when they re up in the sky or down in the water. This carries over in the free roam meanning you can explore the seas freely. You can use free roam to take screenshots or even practice routes and courses. The mode features a backtrack mode that
allows you to go back in time. This is usefull if you re trying to find new shorcuts or if you re trying a hard trick. More over you can spot various NPCs(specifically racers not the goombas, Toads and Yoshis) who themselves practice in various courses. Nintendo also placed various time challenges that usually show alternative paths or tricks. The player can activate them
by driving onto them. Then the trial will officially begin where a timer counts down and rings will appear that you ll have to go through them. You can even free roam with friends making the experience more fun.
Personally i can't decide if i prefer this over Mario Kart 8. Gameplay wise its very smooth and the new maps are very well designed. Mechanically it removed hero importace which is a nice thing as people love to use various heroes without considering what is "meta." Im pretty sure people got tired of watching Waluigis, Rosalinas and Wigglers in high ranks. Also removing vechicle customization
is again in my opinion a good thing but also removes the charm of customizing. The new powerups some re a good addition whereas others are a meh. For example using the coin block or a gold shell is good for money but it also benefits the opponent alots. The main thing i noticed which differentiate World and 8 is the penalty of being hit by a power up. In the past hit by shells and bananas could ve been a
game changer but in World you dont lose the momentum of your speed as much as before. For example, in a race i can hit a person with a red shell twice and it may not be enough to pass through. The bullet as well seen change where it no longer hits the enemy but instead its pushing the enemy to the sides. The star power up also doesnt feel as a rewarding pull. The race tracks are fun, the lack in quantity in comparisson
to 8 although 8 had a lot of DLC cups. Also some of the maps feel like a straight line. On the other hand knockout is an amazing addition and the 25 racers make each race more chaotic than ever before, especially when you have a smalll track with multiple laps.
To be fair these games are mostly there for the online modes and the local multiplayer. Technically there isnt any post game unless you consider the free roam challenges as somehting to do when not racing.
Again graphically the game split the fanbase in half. Some praise the color palletes, the update models and animations where others believe that all these additions came with the cost of its charm. First of all, all the models are upgraded and have extra details and expressions in comparisson to 8. Additionally the heroes have multiple costumes and they can even change during the race giving it an extra charm.
Performing a trick on a rail or on a jump pad triggers various animations. Unlike before, multiple heroes were given different animations that favor the hero. The maps themselves are all well designed with multiple off paths and locations to ride on a wall or a rails. Map designs also have a path leading to the other map which shows how the world is interconnected. Power up animations are also well appreciated, from the
hammers stuck on the ground, to the lightning causing a rain after effect and more. In the open world, you can see NPCs driving by, pedestrians minding their own bussiness and more
Audio wise, the game is using the *new* cast of voice actor found in Mario Wonder. Ofcourse actors who did not appear in that game have the cast from their series or a complete new person. At the same time the background audio is the one
you should be expecting if you ever played any of these titles. This means you should expect energetic instrumentals that escort the craziness of the game. Some instrumentals use different instruments whilst others complete different genres. According to Nintendo the game features
more than 200 OSTs which is crazy on its own, however theres potential for even more tracks to join the roaster of the songs. In the open world mode, the player can use the Jukebox features to find and play the song they preffer.
Overall, Mario Kart World is an easy and safe recommendation to anyone who wants to get into the series and to anyone who owns a Nintendo Switch 2. Is it better than Mario Kart 8? Only time will tell. The game is a racing simulation where 25 players compete for the no1 spot. Aside from the drifts and shorcuts,
the players can use multiple power ups that they pick during the race. The devs added multiple tracks and game modes to differentiate it from previous entries. One of its greatest addition is the never before seen Knock out tour, where 25 racers go through multiple checkpoints eliminating people until 4
racers reach the last track. Visually the game looks more expressive than before with beautiful graphics and locations. It also offers more than 200 OSTs and also features the new voice cast. Last but not least it features an open world free roam where the players can drive freely and listen to any music they like.
There not much things to say negatively about the game but there were a few fair critisisms. For example, 200cc AKA the hardest/fastst difficulty is not included and is yet to be added 14 months later. The RPG elements as well as guest Characters have been removed from the game which removes the tactical selection but also allows for
all the heroes to be used without any drawback. Same argument goes for the kart customization as it is no longer available and people can use any of the default vechicles. Last but not least some of the power ups do not feel as detrimental as before since the momentum is barely lost. It also makes it hard to compete competitive with
friends online unless its in a custom lobby.
